Believe it or not, Easter began in the UK before the arrival of Christianity and it is thought that its name might come from Eoster; goddess of dawn and spring. It is one of the major festivities in UK and its dates vary from year to year; it can occur anytime between the 22nd of March and the 25th of April. During four days Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the end of winter in the North hemisphere and the end of Lent; an antique fasting period. Even though British schools close for two weeks, bank holidays are only on Good Friday, Sunday and Monday.

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and devotees pay a visit to the church to meditate about the death and suffering of Christ on the cross. The Bible states that Jesus Christ resurrected three days after his death (Easter Monday), so the cross, which can be related to suffering, became a symbol of victory of life over death.
