As Latins, one of the easiest jobs we can find in the UK is as a Spanish teacher, but how do we start? What are the requirements? Do we need a special qualification? In this post we will explain to you how to become a Spanish teacher in the UK:

• The options are very broad depending on your studies, your previous experience and your country of origin. Depending on your personal situation you will be able to apply to a Not Qualified teacher –or Qualified teacher status (QTS). The latter will give you access as a teacher to public schools or special education schools where you can perceive a salary between 27.000 and 35.000 pounds.

• Firstly you need to gather all your qualifications: your education degree, or other degree plus a Master in Pedagogy for which you would need a sworn translation of all the documents which will cost you between £50 and £100.

• Once you have your documents translated fill in the form: Application for Qualified teacher status. After all these steps and if your documentation is correct, you will receive your identification number as a teacher within a period of 4 months.

Once back-to-school operation knocks at our door, all involving costs can make it challenging for some families to make ends meet. There are many ways to get financial support, which will help you to face these costs provided by the local education authorities, charities or parent´s associations.

Some of the examples from where you can get help for are:

• Free school meals

Local education maintained schools must provide a free meal to students if their parents receive either: income-based Jobseekers Allowance, income-related employments, income support, universal credit, pension credit, support for asylum seekers or Child Tax Credit.

• School transport

In order to ensure that a child gets to the nearest school from his house, local education authorities must provide for transport and if necessary, it will be free of charge.

If you have just landed in UK and your next mission is to get a new job, the first thing you need to find out is if the companies in your sector will require your recognized qualifications: your bachelor, high school degree, any specialized course etc…If after the proper research within the companies of your sector you find out that this is the case; you must be ready and know the best way to do so.

Health, education, architecture and engineering are normally sectors which will definitively require recognizing your qualifications even though this may vary depending on the company.

The State-owned company UK NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) is probably the best option in order to process your paperwork. They will assist you by giving information about your specific qualifications not belonging to UK.

There are 3 types of Visa that you can apply for studying in one the countries with the best education of the world:

1) Short-term visa:

- To do a short course in UK: English language course or a small research for your degree back home.

- You must be a citizen outside de Economic European Area and Switzerland.

If this is your situation you must as well have been offered a place on a course and have accepted it, you should also have enough money to support yourself without working or relatives or friends must be able to both support and house you. Additionally, make sure that you can pay for your return ticket.

If you are under 18, you need to have a permission granted by your parents or guardian and have made arrangements for your travel and stay. You can apply for it up to 3 months before your arrival and will get a response within 3 weeks. Bear in mind that you cannot study at a State school, work, extend this visa, bring family members nor receive public funds. A 6 months short-term visa has a fee of £85 and an 11 month visa £182.
